Fenocol manufactures a wide range of products that aim to prolong and to protect the life span of cut flowers along all of the stages they go through until they reach their destination, anywhere in the world, where they will be used in floral arrangements.
These products range from items that are used at the moment a flower is cut, others used during its preparation and transportation and still, others used when the flowers reach  their final destination:

Superwetter®

A large spectrum hydrating substance for flowers. It belongs to a STS-free (it does not contain SILVER THIOSULPHATE) latest generation of hydrating substances and can be used in the hydrating process of all types of cut flowers. It comes in three-dimensional 500 gm packages, which ensures better hygienic conditions and economy. Superwetter® was designed and developed for flowers that must either be transported in unfavorable conditions or that must remain stored for several days. Superwetter® is also recommended for use in flowers that were either inadequately or poorly hydrated or that must be quickly rehydrated.

After being cut, flowers continue to breathe  although they cannot replace the water that has been lost. Superwetter® optimally regulates both the opening and closing of the stomata, thus minimizing the loss of water along this process, through retaining the absorbed water for a longer period of time.
When cut flowers are immediately placed in a solution of Superwetter®, they absorb the greatest possible amount of water, without running the risk of diluting the natural carbohydrates present in their stems, thus enhancing the carbohydrates’ speed of transport and  absorption. In addition to the water it provides, the product also contains bactericide and fungicide agents that prevent their vascular systems from getting clogged up. This mechanism ensures a continuous flow of water and nutrients through the plant’s stem, which, in turn, leads to a longer life span, a longer lasting fragrance and a nicer appearance. It also guarantees that all of the buds in any type of flower will blossom and that the leafage will maintain a suitable level of water and nutrients a firm structure thus displaying their original colors.
Furthermore, Superwetter® acts as an agent reducing a plant’s metabolism, which favors and prolongs the life span of a cut flower, substantially enhancing its quality by inhibiting the endogenous production of ethylene gas. Ethylene triggers the ripening process in cut flowers, making buds blossom prematurely, thus lasting for a shorter period of time.
It comes in three special formulations; SuperWetter for all types of flowers, Superwetter Roses for Roses and Gerberas and SuperWetter Tropicals for tropical flowers and leafage.

Directions For Use

Remove the plant’s lower leaves so that they will not come into contact with the solution.
Use plastic containers that have been previously washed and disinfected.
Prepare enough solution to be able to immerse the stems of the flowers in 3 to 4 inches of the solution.
As it can be easily prepared, it is advisable to either prepare the amount that can be used in one day or to daily renew the hydrating solution.
For each 10 liters of hydrating solution to be prepared, add 5 grams of the product.
Beat in mind that this product neither nourishes nor replaces the nutrients normally that cut flowers need.
For flowers transported in dry conditions, it is advisable to use this product either together with the TransportFood® transport solution. Alternatively, one may use the Hydrocontainer® system previously saturated in the TransportFood® transport solution

As soon as flowers are harvested and the supply of water from roots is interrupted, they begin to lose humidity that cannot be replaced even if flowers are soaked in water.

After some time spent in a dry environment, flowers lose a substantial amount of water. If they are not properly rehydrated, they may be subject to an disproportionately short life span.

FlashWetter® consists of an instantaneous hydration pre-treatment for all types of cut flowers.

The product was designed to unclog the base of stems at their harvesting point, with bactericide and fungicide ingredients that make possible the flow of liquids to be restored inside flowers without fading the color of buds or damaging the leafage.

It comes in one gallon plastic containers and has the following characteristics:
  • it is the best way to minimize losses in post-harvest processes as it reduces the percentage of bent or fallen stems.
  • It can be used in all types of flowers. It is a solution that is ready to be used.

  • Directions For Use:

Use plastic containers that have been previously washed and disinfected. The size of containers should correspond to the number of stems to be treated.

Pour the amount of the pure product that ensures stems will be immersed at least 4 cm in the liquid product. Renew the solution at evenly-spaced intervals and keep it free from residues.

Remove the plant’s lower leaves so that they do not come into contact with the liquid product.

Cut the botton end of the stems and immerse them into FlashWetter, for no more thsn two seconds.

Relocate immediately to Supperwetter or to your favorite hydrating solution.
Avoid contamination by pouring the product into another bottle. The liquid product must be renewed if it is not translucent.
This product enhances the hydrating process. It does not however replace the hydration.

This product must be handled in strict compliance with all applicable safety measures. Keep this product out of the reach of children and animals and store it in a fresh and dry place.

An analysis of ethylene gas and its effects

Ethylene gas and its effects :

Ethylene is a phytohormone that regulates and coordinates innumerous processes of growth and aging in plants.

Its extremely simple chemical structure (being a very simple unsaturated hydrocarbon) and its gaseous nature grant it unique and special characteristics among the various types of development regulators that exist in the vegetal realm. Its biological activity is triggered even at very low concentrations and it has an influence on a wide range of physiological effects. Ethylene is normally produced very slowly in vegetal tissues. However, a significant increase in its rate of production can be triggered during certain stages of development (the formation of seeds, the ripening of certain fruits, the withering of flowers, the aging of plants and their shedding of leaves, etc.) or when plants are facing specific adverse environmental conditions (such as infections caused by pathogenic agents, lesions, lack or excess of water, etc.), for ethylene acts as a regulating mechanism in a plant’s various physiological responses.

Operating Mechanisms in the Superwetter® and TransportFood® products:

FENOCOL®has devised a system for reducing the amount of ethylene encountered in all its post-harvest formulations, for it has found a way to make the system act upon cut  flowers strictly according to the operating mechanism described below:

Like any other phytohormone, ethylene must attach itself to a receptor in order to become active. Due to its complex feature of being a self-triggered catalyst, the sites at which it attaches are of a  protein  nature and they associate themselves with microsomal membranes, which are lypophilic receptors.

The closest biological precursor  of ethylene is  -1-aminocyclo-propane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC), which, when catalyzed through the action of the enzyme ACC oxidase (known as EFE  ethylene forming enzyme)  turns itself into ethylene (releasing at the same time CO2 and HCN). This reaction is aerobic and acts as a building block in most of the vegetal tissues.

One specific stage along the process of this biosynthesis shows the constraining factor of the production of ethylene, i.e., ACC synthesis. Superwetter® and TransportFood® act as competitive inhibitors of  ACC synthesis, generating a decrease in the production of ethylene and of ACC synthesis, after the inductive period, acting simultaneously at the level of reducing the rates and activity of  EFE (ACC oxidase ).

This process, in physiological conditions, is irreversible, as it represents a discharge  of ACC. More than just a form of storage, it provides an additional mechanism for regulating the production of ethylene.
